How does the technology work?
Wind power converts the kinetic energy of the wind into electricity. The wind turns a propeller that in turn rotates a generator to produce electricity.
The amount and reliability of the electricity produced depends on the force and reliability of the wind and the efficiency of the match to a suitable wind turbine design.
Enevis always recommend a comprehensive Wind and Environmental Impacts survey to assess the feasibility of a wind turbine whether it is for a wind farm generating megawatts of electricity or a small domestic turbine generating kilowatts. A properly sited and designed wind farm installation could potentially generate 30 per cent more power per pound invested than solar.
Where can a wind turbine be installed?
Wind turbines can be installed on land or offshore although. Enevis currently only undertakes land-based wind projects. Turbines can be placed anywhere with a reasonably constant reliable wind; open fields, mountains, coastal areas.
