About Water Reclamation
How does the technology work?
Rainwater harvesting is simply collecting rain that falls onto roofs, then storing it and using it as a free resource.
The collected water is often used as a water management system for toilet urinal flushing and also provides mains water back up provision for extreme drought conditions.
The benefits of rainwater harvesting include reduced mains water consumption, a reduced water bill (and in some cases a reduction in rates), a positive image for your company and contributing towards your company /organisation achieving the EU’s 2020 targets.
Important: Rainwater harvesting should not be used drinking water, food preparation or human washing without special purification measures.
Where can a water reclamation system be installed?
Water reclamation involves collecting "grey water" and filtering it for future use. As this is water that has previously been used for washing and cleaning, special precautions must be employed when recycling grey water to avoid harmful bacterial contamination. Grey water is often recycled for toilet flushing and irrigation.
As with rainwater harvesting, grey water can be stored in specially designed storage vessels that can be mounted within the building or underground The stored water can then be distributed around the building on a dedicated plumbing circuit for toilet flushing.
Sewage can also be reclaimed and recycled via either or the following methods.
- Reed bed filtration.
- Anaerobic/aerobic digestion.
Health Warning: With all methods of water harvesting /reclamation, for health reasons special measures must be incorporated, and regulations conformed to. Always use a specialist contractor.
